STOP GUESSING.
START MIXING
WITH INTENTION.
Level Up is an online mixing course for producers, musicians and engineers who want to stop relying on guesswork and make better mixing decisions.
Learn to hear what matters, work systematically, and use your tools with purpose – so you can approach a mix with greater clarity and intention.
Self-Paced · $997 AUD | Pro · $2,997 AUD
Any genre. Any DAW. Any room you can learn to understand.
Here's where words stop
mattering.
Listen.
A better mix isn’t about making everything louder, brighter or more impressive. It’s about understanding what the song needs. How the elements relate to each other. What deserves your attention. Where the mix needs depth, movement or space. And how your decisions shape the way the music feels.
Space play / pause · ← → skip 5s · drag a waveform to seek · Loop, then drag the handles to set a region
Real mixing sessions, fully demonstrated in front of you.
YOU PROBABLY DON'T NEED ANOTHER MIXING TUTORIAL.
You know what an EQ does. You may know what compression does. You know how to add reverb. You’ve probably watched videos about phase, gain staging, saturation, parallel processing, stereo width, vocal compression and a hundred other things.
So why can mixing still feel like guesswork?
Because knowing what a tool does isn’t the same as knowing when to use it. You can have all the information and still sit in front of a mix thinking: “What should I do next?”
You make a change. It sounds better. Then you make another. Now you’re not sure. You bypass the plugin. Put it back. Change the settings. Compare again. An hour later you’re still tweaking — but you’re no longer sure what problem you’re solving.
THE PROBLEM ISN'T A LACK
OF INFORMATION.
IT'S KNOWING WHAT TO DO
WITH IT.
YOU DON'T NEED MORE MIXING TRICKS.
YOU JUST NEED BETTER JUDGEMENT.
A great mixer isn’t simply someone who knows more techniques. They’re someone who can listen to a song and work out:
And most importantly: why did that decision work – and how can I make it happen again?
These are skills Level Up helps you develop.
FROM HAPPYACCIDENT TO SKILLFUL INTENTION
You will occasionally make a brilliant mixing decision by accident. That’s part of learning. But if you don’t understand why it worked, you can’t reliably do it again. The breakthrough is understanding why something worked – and learning how to make that decision deliberately.
YOU'LL RECOGNISE & BUILD THESE SKILLS.
MR FIX / MR VIBE
It can also feel exciting while being held back by technical problems.
THREE THINGS CHANGE WHEN YOU LEVEL UP.
HEAR
OBJECTIVELY
Learn to trust what you’re actually hearing. Understand your room and listening environment. Use objective checks, level-matched comparisons and better listening practices to separate genuine improvement from expectation bias.
WORK
SYSTEMATICALLY
Stop starting every mix from scratch. Learn how to prepare, organise, check and structure a session so technical problems don’t constantly interrupt creative decisions. Build a workflow you can repeat.
MIX
ARTISTICALLY
Once the technical foundation is under control, make decisions that serve the song. Learn to identify what deserves attention, what can be left alone, and where the music needs more energy, focus, movement or character.
HEAR OBJECTIVELY. WORK SYSTEMATICALLY. MIX ARTISTICALLY.
With Jack Joseph Puig, Mix With The Masters
Mix With The Masters, France — 2014
I DIDN'T LEARN THIS FROM ONE COURSE.
I started with drums when I was 12. That eventually turned into recording, producing and mixing with multiple bands and projects. I became fascinated by how records actually sounded – and eventually went to audio college to learn how to make them.
I learned plenty. But after two years of theory and technical information, I still didn’t have what I really needed: a reliable way to approach a mix. I had learned what things were. I hadn’t learned how to think through a mix.
Through band contacts, I got the opportunity to assist on large studio sessions with Grammy-winning engineer David Nicholas, whose credits include Elton John, INXS and Sting. The professionals weren’t randomly tweaking things until something sounded better. They had a process. They knew what they were listening for. They knew what mattered.
In 2014 I travelled to the south of France to learn from Grammy-winning mixer and producer Jack Joseph Puig at Mix With The Masters. That week changed the way I looked at mixing. I realised the thing I had been missing wasn’t another plugin or trick.
It was a deeper understanding of the concepts that guide a mix. Not just which compression ratio to use or which frequencies to adjust, but how to make decisions that serve the music – and how to make those decisions repeatable.
I’ve spent years developing this approach through experimentation, mistakes, further education, masterclasses, professional sessions, and plenty of time discovering what works – and what doesn’t.
I’ve also been fortunate to see how experienced professionals approach their sessions and make decisions in the studio. Level Up brings together those experiences and the lessons I’ve learned, so you can develop a deeper understanding of mixing – not just a collection of techniques you could find anywhere on YouTube.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE SHOULD SERVE THE MUSIC.
My background as a drummer means I’ve spent years on the other side of the glass, thinking about performance, groove, dynamics and what makes a part feel alive. My technical training means I care deeply about getting things right at the source. But neither side is enough on its own.
The point isn’t technical perfection for its own sake. The point is to use technical knowledge to create something that makes people feel something — fight, cry, laugh, dance, or simply hear a song differently.
THE TECHNOLOGY SERVES THE MUSIC.
NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.
THIS ISN'T 47 HOURS OF VIDEOS YOU'RE EXPECTED TO BINGE.
It’s a six-week working process designed to change how you approach a mix. Each week builds on the last — from your listening environment and technical foundations, through preparation and tools, into judgement and full-song application.
of full-song walkthroughs — more than half the course is watching the system applied, not someone talking at you.
SIX WEEKS. ONE SYSTEM.
Room, listening position, monitoring, baseline mix and mindset.
Phase, signal structure, meters and level-matched A/B.
What different tools actually do, and choosing the right one for the problem.
Turn raw tracks into an organised, edited, phase-checked, gain-staged, mix-ready session.
Diagnose problems, prioritise what matters, and make purposeful musical decisions.
Follow three complete mixes – country, hard rock and indie pop – then return to your Week 1 mix and do it again.
THREE GENRES USING ONE SYSTEM.
You get access to three multi-track sessions, with full start to finish mixing videos. Each demonstrating how the system can be easily applied across multiple genres.
MORE MIXING. LESS FIXING.
Pro-tier tools designed to remove the hard work from mix prep, find your ideal speaker placement options, calculate modulation and delays, alongside proprietary mixing tools developed to supercharge the system.
Spend more time mixing and less time fixing with ongoing lifetime toolkit access for Pro students.
Reduce time spent on tedious editing and repetitive technical tasks.
Greater control over vocal and drum mixing using proprietary tools.
Advance your skills through challenging ear training drills.
WHO THIS IS FOR.
You know your DAW and tools, but still wonder what to do next.
You’ve watched tutorials but your results still feel inconsistent.
You want to understand why a mix works, not just copy settings.
You want to learn how technical decisions serve the song, not just impress other engineers.
You want your mixes to feel alive and intentional – not just “correct.”
You’re willing to put the necessary work in to improve.
You want quick mixing hacks or pre-set packs.
You want someone else to mix your music for you.
You’re looking for a magic plugin that solves mixes automatically.
You’re not prepared to listen critically and develop judgement.
You want instant results without putting the system into practice.
You’re interested in mastering rather than mixing.
Level Up is for people who are ready to start developing better judgement.
DIRECT IMPLEMENTATION.
You can watch a lesson and understand it. That’s valuable.
But having an experienced mixer help you develop what you’re missing. That’s where judgement develops.
Choose Pro if you don’t just want to understand the system – you want an experienced ear helping you identify where your own judgement is still developing and where you need to focus.
This works. Give it a proper look.

Pro supports you with implementation.
IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT TECHNIQUES.
It’s about changing how you listen, prepare and make top-level decisions.
"I hadn't done a full mix in 5 years or so. So this was a refresher and a deeper dive for me… how to listen to and identify audio issues."
“Before Level Up, I was struggling to get the balance between instruments closer to a pro standard and to make my mixes translate between different environments.
I found it particularly helpful to learn how to focus on the three elements that carry the song, and how to mix to achieve height, width and depth.
The advanced drum phase fine-tuning went well beyond what I knew about polarity and alignment in a DAW, and learning it from a drummer was a real highlight. I also found the techniques for staying objective while mixing useful, along with the framework for looking at why a mix isn’t working.
I’d recommend Level Up to anyone struggling with mixing at home in a DAW or with a live band, especially if you want to study online in your own time or build on what you’ve learned through TAFE or self-study.”
Dave Neumann — Founders Edition student
“Daniel and I always joke that as engineers, we were separated at birth. We share very similar philosophies on audio, even though our approaches are completely different – I’m usually sitting behind a large-format analog console, and he works mostly in the box. But when I’ve mastered his mixes, the results are undeniable.
I’ve watched him pour his life into building this course from the ground up, and knowing him, I knew it would be exhaustive. What makes Daniel a great teacher isn’t just his ear; it’s his logic. He connects the technical work directly to the artistic outcome, and he holds absolutely nothing back.
Having spent ten years teaching audio at the university level, I can honestly say the level of detail and transparency in this course is deep. It’s a complete education in mixing.”
Simon Moro — Top 2% Music Producers World Wide (verified Muso.ai), Co-Owner The Avenue Recording Studio
“Comprehensive – Dan teaches everything you might learn at an audio school and more. He manages to highlight gaps you never knew existed.”
Thomas Kepple — Former Audio College Graduate
“It was super easy to understand! I would recommend it 10,000%!”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Level Up is taught in Pro Tools, but the listening skills and decision-making framework are designed to transfer to any modern DAW.
You can use Lie To Momma, the supplied country multitrack, as your starting material.
You should already understand tracks, routing, basic editing and using plugins. The sweet spot is someone who knows the tools but wants to get much better at deciding what to do with them.
Self-Paced gives you the system. Pro adds personal mix feedback, direct support, and the Pro Toolkit – helping you turn it into ability faster via direct implementation that is tailored to your specific setup.
Most students spend a few focused sessions per week of 1-2 hours, rather than clearing a whole day. Each week drops that weeks’ lessons, so you have time to digest the material, before moving on, and each week builds on the last.
Yes. Both Self-Paced and Pro come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. You have 30 days to decide whether Level Up is right for you. If it isn’t, let me know and I’ll refund your purchase. Full terms are in Refunds & Guarantees.
Yes, in Level Up Pro. The goal isn’t for Daniel to just tell you what to change — it’s to help you understand why, so you make better decisions yourself next time.
12 months of course access. Selected Pro Toolkit tools have lifetime access as specified with the Pro offer.
No. Level Up focuses on mixing, including the handoff considerations for mastering.
Yes. If you start with Self-Paced, you can upgrade to Level Up Pro at any time for the difference in price (A$2,000). Your course progress carries over, and you add the personal feedback, direct support, community and Pro Toolkit access. Your Self-Paced purchase keeps its original 30-day money-back period. The upgrade has its own 30-day money-back guarantee, starting on the upgrade date and covering the upgrade payment only, and your 12 months of Pro support start on that date. Upgrading doesn’t extend your course access, which still runs 12 months from your original purchase. See Refunds & Guarantees.
